Our congregation is a friendly and caring group of people, interested in local, national and international issues. We believe that we can make a worthwhile contribution by working within the church and the community. We welcome new partnerships and relationships and would love to see you in worship or at one of our community events.
If you have any questions or queries, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
Services
Worship is central to all we do at Oakworth Methodist Church.
You are warmly invited to share with us at any of our services – the Services page gives dates and venues for all the services mentioned below.
Our main service is held at 10.30 am each Sunday morning.
We have an Aire Valley Church united service 4th Sunday monthly (location changes – please check the diary in the ‘What’s On’ page for more information)
Messy Church meets monthly on a Thursday afternoon – see their page on the Oakworth website for details.
- If you would like us to remember someone in prayer during one of the Services, please contact the Church Office.
- Coffee and biscuits are served free of charge after most of our services to enable us to get to know each other better.
- The church is equipped with a public address system and loop system to help people with hearing difficulties.
- Weekly Notice Sheets are printed. Please send any items for inclusion to David Howarth by the previous Thursday.
Our special services are detailed below:
All Age Worship – monthly – 10.30 am
Each month we have an All-Age worship service when the young people remain in church for the whole service. Some of these services are special multi-media Praise Services led by the Young People themselves, which include drama, modern worship songs led by our Praise Band, and visual aids on screen.
Holy Communion is celebrated monthly as part of the main morning service.
Children & Youth
Children of all ages are welcome to share in our worship services.
‘All Age Worship’ services are held most months – often on the 2nd Sunday – appropriately designed to include everyone.
Messy Church happens on the 2nd Thursday of the month at Oakworth Chapel, 3.30-5.30pm.
What happens at Messy Church?
· Lots of fun and play
· A Bible related story
· Themed craft activities for children and
parents to enjoy together
· A meal together for the children
(Please contact us in advance if you have any food allergies and we will do our best to cater for your needs)
£2 per child
As Messy Church is specifically for families, children remember that you will need to come with an adult.
As well as getting together on a Sunday Morning to worship God, we share fellowship in a variety of activities during the week:
- Ladies of all ages are welcome at the monthly Ladies’ Group – on a Tuesday afternoon.
A monthly programme for ladies between September and April – often on the first Tuesday of each month at 1.45pm, but do check for any changes. All of their upcoming sessions are listed below. Each year, the group choose a charity to raise funds for.
Contact: Madeline Schofield - Lunch Club happens every Tuesday between September and July, where older people can come for a full lunch at an affordable price in a warm, friendly environment. Lunch is served at 12.15 pm in the Church Hall when 30 to 40 folk enjoy a delicious meal together. It only costs £4.00 and everything is cooked on the premises.
- If you prefer to get out and about, why not join our Wednesday Club – a monthly social gathering for everybody to get to know each other better.
Everyone is warmly invited to share with us whenever and wherever they can – either at one of the above groups or over coffee after service on a Sunday – or at one of our other social and fundraising events which are held throughout the year. Check the Church Diary, our Newsletter or the Weekly Notices for details of what’s on in the near future.
Each year Oakworth Chapel becomes the location for a community pantomime!
Performances are 2 weeks in February.
For more information, have a look at the Oakworth Chapel website, and see the pantos from the past years!
We also have a Pantomime Praise Service every June which involves as many of the Panto cast as possible, in character, with various extracts from the current year’s pantomime included. There is always a Christian theme drawn from the panto script which ties together the extracts and is interleaved with appropriate songs, readings, drama, etc. Some of the Panto Team also play musical instruments to accompany the singing at this service. We are delighted that so many of the parents and carers stay for this service.
We have three different rooms available for hire, in addition to the main church room, suitable for a variety of groups including birthday parties. We also have a fully equipped kitchen used by our own Luncheon Club.
Hall: At 40 feet by 20 feet, with a hard floor, this is the largest of our rooms and home to most of our regular groups including Pre-School, Guides, KYDZ Youth Theatre and our own Luncheon Club. £11 per hour before 6pm, £13 per hour after 6pm.
Lounge: At 25 feet by 14 feet, our carpeted lounge is ideal for meetings or small quieter groups such as the Third Age Groups and Oakworth Craft Group. £9 per hour.
Wesley Room: At 18 feet by 14 feet, this carpeted room can be used for smaller meetings or as a breakout room when large groups are working in small teams around the building. It has its own kitchenette with tea-making facilities. £7 per hour.
Kitchen: Our fully equipped kitchen is also available to book. £6 per hour for making tea only. £11 per hour for full facilities.
The main Church Room is equipped with a full Audio/Visual System including Loop System for those with hearing difficulties. If you would like to book this room for a special one-off meeting/event, please get in touch as normal and a technician will contact you to discuss your specific requirements to see if they can be accommodated.
We also have a Bouncy Castle available which we set up in the Wesley Room for young parties. This is limited to two people under the age of six at any one time, and is charged at £10 per booking.
To book any of our rooms or enquire about availability, please contact Janet Armstrong. Discounts are available for regular bookings.
All groups should be aware that Smoking and Alcohol are prohibited on Church Premises, and you will be asked to comply with our Safeguarding Guidelines at all times.
The church has ample, accessible parking. There is one-level movement throughout the ground floor of the building, as well as accessible toilets.
Some of our rooms are upstairs, so please get in touch to discuss your access needs.
Parking on Sundays and for most of our public events is available in the school car park diagonally opposite the Church.
At other times you can park in the church yard or in Station Road opposite.

Oakworth Methodist Church is right at the heart of Oakworth. The Primary School and co-op are across the road, Oakworth Station (situated on the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway, famous for being home to the original “The Railway Children” film) is half a mile away from the Church, down Station Road, and Haworth and the Bronté Country are just across the valley.
From Keighley:
Take Oakworth Road (B6143) out of Keighley and, after 2 miles, descend to the mini-roundabout in the centre of the village, at the junction with Station Road. The church is on your right off the roundabout.
From Haworth (top of Main Street):
Take Mytholmes Lane down to the bottom of the valley and back up the other side (Providence Lane). At the end of the road, turn right onto Keighley Road (B6143). After 300 yards, the church is on your left off the roundabout.
From Lees/Cross Roads:
Take Vale Mill Lane down to the bottom of the valley, over the level crossing by Oakworth Station, then back up Station Road at the other side. The church is straight ahead at top of Station Road.
Parking:
You can park in the church yard or in Station Road opposite. For large events at weekends or in the evening we are usually able to make use of the Primary School’s staff car park (turn right out of the church, then immediately left through the school gates). The school gates are normally locked out of hours.
